Monroe County reports 95 new COVID cases, two new deaths

Monroe County confirmed 95 new COVID-19 cases and two new deaths Wednesday, pushing the county’s total positive cases over 18,000 and total deaths to 232.

The county’s 7-day positivity rate is down to 6.9 percent.

The county remained in the orange advisory level. Its weekly cases per 100,000 is 270.

In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, hospitalizations increased to 149, slightly up from the 142 reported Tuesday. More than half the ICU beds in the district are taken up by COVID patients and just 13 percent of the ICU beds are available.

Statewide

The state confirmed 7,967 new cases Wednesday, well up from the 5,776 cases Tuesday. Indiana has had 1,234,919 positive cases since the pandemic began.

The Indiana Department of Health also confirmed 58 new COVID-19 deaths Wednesday, raising the total since the pandemic began to 18,338.

Hospitalizations rose slightly to 3,061 on Wednesday. It’s the highest number of hospitalizations in a year. The state’s positivity rate is up to 14.3 percent.
