State sets 2021 single-day record for new positive cases of COVID-19

Monroe County confirmed 163 new COVID-19 cases. That’s up from 95 Wednesday. However, no new deaths were reported.

The county’s 7-day positivity rate ticked back up to 7.7 percent. It was down to 6.9 percent Wednesday.

The county remained in the orange advisory level. Its weekly cases per 100,000 is 270.

In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, hospitalizations increased to 157, slightly up from the 149 reported Wednesday. More than half the ICU beds in the district are taken up by COVID patients and just 13 percent of the ICU beds are available.

Statewide

Indiana reported the highest number of single-day positive cases of COVID 19 this year Wednesday, and broke that record by more than four thousand cases today.

The state reported 12,020 new positive cases Thursday, pushing the total to just under 1,247,000 since the pandemic began.

The state also announced 48 new deaths, bringing the total to 18,386. And the state’s the seven-day positivity rate in the state climbed to 14.9 percent.
