The man who barricaded himself in a hotel room at the Indiana Memorial Union Monday night was charged Wednesday with three misdemeanors related to the incident.
Monroe County Circuit Court judge Valeri Haughton oversaw the initial hearing, where Cecil Lamar Gilbert asked for a public defender.

During the hearing, Gilbert said he was concerned that if he was released, his life would be in jeopardy.
He will appear Thursday in court before Judicial Officer Christine Talley Haseman for a separate felony charge that was filed in June.
During the Wednesday hearing, Haughton said it didn't appear that Gilbert has a permanent place of residence, and advised that he not be released before his Thursday court session.
