Millis to seek Libertarian nomination for open 9th District seat

Tonya Millis will once again seek the Libertarian nomination for Indiana’s 9 th Congressional District.

The Realtor from Mitchell was the Libertarian choice in 2020, finishing third behind Republican Rep. Trey Hollingsworth and Democrat Andy Ruff.

Millis left the Republican Party in 2016. She’s running on much of what she championed two years ago: personal freedom, “rolling back” restrictions against liberty, and fighting the country’s two-party system.

Millis believes she can keep the Libertarian momentum going after the coronavirus pandemic pushed many Hoosiers to vote for the party, which advocates for strict limits on government power.

“Our numbers are growing so fast, we're getting really good attendance at our meetings,” Millis said Friday. “The enthusiasm amongst the people we talk to is pretty good. Most people are tired of the two-party system.”

Currently, no other Libertarians have filed for election in the 9 th District.

If Millis is chosen, she’ll enter a wide-open race. The incumbent Hollingsworth announced earlier this month he would not seek re-election.
