Five suspended IU basketball players reinstated by Woodson

The five Indiana men’s basketball players who were suspended, apparently for curfew violation, have been reinstated. Coach Mike Woodson took the action before last Tuesday night’s game at Northwestern.

Starters Xavier Johnson and Parker Stewart and reserves Michael Durr, Khristian Lander and Tamar Bates all sat out the 59-51 loss to the Wildcats.

At the time, the first-year head coach said the suspensions were for a violation of team rules and did not specify how long the five would be suspended.

But Thursday, Woodson announced in a statement the players would play Saturday at Michigan State.

“It’s important that all team rules are followed and a curfew applies to everyone in our program for a reason,” Woodson said in the statement. “It will be my decision to determine what role each one will have moving forward.”

Indiana has a 16-7 overall record and is 7-6 in the Big Ten.
