Leah Tribbett is on a mission.
The Indianapolis-based photographer made a trip down to Bloomington for some antique hunting a few weeks back and stopped at the Antique Mall off the town square.
There, she found a plastic bag full of old 8-millimeter film rolls. Something told her she had to grab it.
“They were in older casters or film reel compartments,” Tribbett said. “For me, it was like, ‘Oh, this could either be like cool decor or there could be something really underneath this.”
It turns out, there was.
Tribbett took the film home and ran it through a digitizer. What she found was old home videos from the Bloomington area.
I found 8mm film at an antique store in Bloomington, IN. Something felt special about it so I bought it digitized it. If anyone recognizes anyone/anything from this video please reach out. I believe it is from the 80s? I’d love to connect and give all the files to the family ? pic.twitter.com/QkEXMypXf2 — Leah (@leahtrib) March 27, 2022
“There were some really just like, core family moments in this film that could be something so important to a family,” she said. “I'm hoping, bringing this film into a different light is going to bring back a memory for someone.”
She took to social media with hopes of getting connected with the families pictured. The response has been strong, but she doesn’t have any leads yet.
Tribbett says anyone with information on the videos can contact her at her photography business, or they can reach out to her on Twitter @leahtrib.
