One person dead in accident on I-69 south of Bloomington

One person is dead after their car was struck by a semi-tractor trailer on I-69 south of Bloomington Tuesday morning.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident in the southbound lane of I-69 at mile marker 111, about three miles south of the Bedford exit a little after 6 a.m.

Officials determined the driver of the vehicle struck by the semi had died on the scene as “result of injuries sustained from the crash.”

According to the release, a witness driving southbound on I-69 said he passed the semi and was driving alongside the passenger car when three deer jumped onto the highway, causing the car to crash, then spin in the roadway.

The semi driver reported he came upon the car sitting sideways in the roadway with no lights and did not have time to stop before striking the car.

The person killed in the crash has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
