The Monroe County Election Board board started to go through provisional ballots Friday at noon and validated 42 of the 195 that were cast on Election Day.
Most provisional ballots were rejected because the ballot caster was either not registered, tried to vote in a county or precinct they were not registered in, or didn’t bring an ID to their polling place and didn’t bring it in to Election Central after voting.

Most polling sites had between one to 11 provisional ballots. The Indiana Memorial Union site had the most with 63, of which only three were able to be accepted. Most had to be rejected because the voters were not registered to vote in Monroe County.
The Monroe County Election Board said provisional ballots will be added to election totals by early next week.
The provisional ballots could change totals in the race for District 62, where Dave Hall leads Penny Githens by 37 votes currently.
Githens, who was at Election Central Friday, said she's waiting to see how the provisional ballots affect totals before requesting a recount.
District 62 includes all of Brown County, and parts of Monroe and Jackson.
The Jackson County Clerk's office said their ballot count only changed by two Friday.
The WFIU/WTIU newsroom has reached out to the Brown County Clerk for provisional ballot totals.
