EPA will test East Palestine waste before entering Indiana

Environmental Protection Agency officials say that any waste being sent to Indiana from East Palestine, Ohio will be tested before it enters the state.

The EPA is looking for dioxins: highly toxic chemicals that may form during the burning of fuel or waste. 

The news came out in a press release from the office of Governor Eric Holcomb. 

He said materials that had already arrived in the state would be sent early Saturday to the Pace Laboratory.

That announcement follows yesterday’s statement from the governor that he had directed a third-party contractor to test material from the train wreck. 

On Tuesday, Holcomb had denounced the EPA’s decision to ship waste from Ohio to Roachdale, Indiana and said he had learned of the arrangement third-hand.
