McCormick's Creek State Park reopens after deadly tornado but access limited

McCormick’s Creek State Park reopened to limited use April 7 after a tornado killed two people at the campgrounds and damaged other parts of the property a week earlier.

Some hiking trails are closed or limited. Trails 1, 4 and 9 are open. Trails 2, 5, 6, 7 and 10 are closed. Trails 3 and 8 are limited.

The campground area was the most heavily damaged by the tornado and will not be accepting any new reservations for the remainder of 2023. People with existing reservations can expect the campgrounds to reopen Oct. 1.

The Canyon Inn and the saddle barn are open and operating on normal schedules. Some cabins and shelters on the property are closed due to damage.

School and group programs are being rescheduled. Regular public programming is set to resume later this month.

A press release says the park is accepting volunteers to help with cleanup.
