All Options Pregnancy Resource Center funds increasing number of abortions

Though access to abortion is more limited than ever after last summer’s special legislative session, activists say the demand is still there.

All Options Pregnancy Resource Center funded an all-time high number of abortions last month, according to its director Jessica Marchbank.

She said the nonprofit funded 358 abortions for people in May, compared to 135 in May last year.

"The number of people who are reaching out when they're only four to six weeks pregnant has increased dramatically," she said.

She said in last 3 months approximately 415 people at eight weeks gestation or under reached out for help funding abortion.

Fewer clinics in Indiana are performing abortions now, Marchbank said. So people are having to travel further and need more financial help.

"We funded someone last week who lived in Louisville, Kentucky, and was being sent to Merrillville for her first appointment, which was 260 miles away, because that was the first available appointment she could get."

From June to December 2022, All Options funded abortions for more than 1,300 Hoosiers. Of those, seventy percent received care in state.

This year from January through May, they’ve nearly matched that, funding more than 1,100 Hoosiers, and 60 percent received care in state.
