Advocates for stricter firearm regulation joined rallies across Indiana over the weekend to draw attention to U.S. gun violence.

In downtown Bloomington Saturday, supporters held signs reading “We Can End Gun Violence” during a memorial for shooting victims.

City officials hosted the event to remember gun victims and support the Wear Orange movement, which advocates stricter firearm laws.

“We know that the majority of gun owners are responsible,” said Courtney Daily, one of the event organizers. “That being said, we also don't see the use for semi-automatic weapons amongst the population.”

The movement holds events each year during June to mark National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

It began in 2015 to remember a teenager who was shot and killed days after performing at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration.
