Florida state attorney Tom Bakkedahl says he is opening an investigation and hopes to seek the death penalty against Daniel Troya and Ricardo Sanchez, Jr., for the murders of four family members in 2006.

Police say a 56-year-old Bloomington man has been hospitalized after being shot multiple times at an apartment on the west side of the city. Two people suspected of involvement are in custody.

University authorities urged IU students and staff to seek shelter early Saturday, after Bloomington police received reports of gunfire. Authorities later said there were no reports of injury.

Police are investigating several scenarios, including whether the incident was a murder-suicide. No arrests have been made but authorities say there’s no public safety threat.

Lake County sheriff’s police sent to a home in Griffith found two men dead and a third in critical condition, all having suffered gunshot wounds, Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. said.

A Marion County jury convicted Mylik Hill, 33, of two counts of attempted murder, six counts of resisting law enforcement and one count of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

A debit card left behind at the scene of a fatal shooting helped police in Gary track down and arrest a man suspected of killing a fellow customer at a grocery store. The violence was caught on the store’s surveillance camera.

Police said they located the suspected shooter at a residence and arrested him without incident Saturday. He was transported to the Bloomington Police Department for questioning and taken to the Monroe Co. Jail for processing.

In downtown Bloomington, supporters held signs reading “We Can End Gun Violence” during a memorial for shooting victims. City officials hosted the event to remember gun victims and support the Wear Orange movement.
