Police say a Bloomington man is hospitalized after being shot multiple times, and two people suspected of involvement are in custody.
Bloomington Police said officers responded to a report of a shooting at a west side apartment around 11 p.m. Friday. They said the 56-year-old victim required emergency surgery after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

Minutes after arriving at the apartment, on the 100 block of South Curry Pike, responding officers “observed two subjects walking along a tree line” between a church and grocery parking lot, the department said Saturday in a statement.
“As the officer approached the two individuals, they began running and crossed over to the Kroger parking lot. A female was quickly taken into custody and a male was chased by officers on foot to the rear of the Kroger store. The male attempted to hide in a small patch of woods, but was located a few moments later and taken into custody without further incident,” it said.
Police identified the two individuals as Devance Gayles, 35, from Michigan City, and Annabella Winter, 19, from Bloomington.
Gayles is facing felony charges including attempted murder, burglary, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, criminal recklessness, and pointing a firearm.
Winter is facing a misdemeanor resisting law enforcement charge.
They’re both being held at the Monroe County jail pending arraignment. It wasn’t immediately clear if either one had an attorney.
Police also said officers located a handgun wrapped in a sweatshirt near the area where the officers first observed the pair.
The statement said coordination with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police led to the swift arrests.
“This coordination resulted in the suspect’s being located within just over five minutes of the initial 911 call being received, both suspects being taken into custody within nine minutes of the call, and a firearm being located that was believed to be involved in the shooting within 45 minutes,” according to the statement.
Bloomington and IU police also responded to reports of gunfire near campus after midnight. There were no reports of injury or arrests in that incident.
