The Bloomington Redevelopment Commission will review purchase proposals later this month for properties in the Trades District.

Four tracts are for sale within the five-acre property between Madison Street and Rogers Street and 11th and 10th, ranging in minimum cost from $560 thousand to more than $2.5 million.

The RDC will consider the price, development timeline and trades district master plan when settling on buyers.

Senior Vice President for Innovation and Strategic Partnerships at The Mill John Fernandez said he wants developers to create work and recreation opportunities for young, educated professionals.

“It's really got to be a multi-dimensional neighborhood where people want to be, especially for the demographic we're targeting,” he said.

The Trades District was conceived in 2013 during then-mayor Mark Kruzan’s administration as a future tech hub to attract private investment in Bloomington. The city says it will prioritize bids to construct high tech business offices.

The notice of offering also opened the door for professional housing development but emphasized that undergraduate student housing is off the table.

Prospective buyers have to file offers with The Mill by 3 p.m. on July 17.
