Farm Aid festival to feature Mellencamp and more

The Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville will host the annual Farm Aid festival for the second time on September 23.

The concert lineup will feature Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp, who helped create the festival in 1985. Other acts include Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, Margo Price, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring The Wolfpack, and more.

Farm Aid was created to raise awareness about the loss of family farms, according to the website. The festival has raised more than $70 million for various agricultural programs and farmers.

“We are honored and excited to bring the Farm Aid experience back to Indiana,” John Mellencamp, musician and Farm Aid co-founder, said in a press release. “My home state holds deep meaning for me and for the generations of family farmers who have dedicated their lives to caring for the Earth and bringing us good food.”

Agriculture contributes more than $35 billion to the state’s economy, according to the Indiana State Department of Agriculture. Ninety-five percent of that agriculture is family owned or operated.

Attendees will be able to experience music and fresh food, produced by local farms. There will be hands-on exhibits about soil, water, energy, food and farming, according to the press release.

General tickets go on sale Saturday at10 a.m.
