An unattended candle started a fire at Kinser Flats apartments Sunday. Bloomington Fire Chief Max Litwin said damage was contained to the originating apartment, but the sprinkler system caused water damage to six other units. The Red Cross relocated individuals in the affected apartments. No injuries were reported.
Kinser Flats was developed in 2019 as one of the first affordable permanent housing solutions for Bloomington residents experiencing homelessness and/or substance abuse. The apartments are owned by Centerstone, a nonprofit health system specializing in mental health and addiction treatment.
