Columbus Republic, other small papers cutting back on print editions

Some small Indiana newspapers will not be publishing as many print editions starting in September.

AIM Media Indiana announced this week it was eliminating daily print editions of The Columbus Republic, Seymour Tribune and Greenfield Daily Reporter Sept. 2. Those papers will publish only on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Franklin Daily Journal will stop publishing on Mondays, but still be printed Tuesday through Saturday.

“The world has pivoted to digital delivery of information. We have to pivot with it,” AIM Indiana publisher Richard Clark said in a piece published at each property. “It is the news itself that is important, and digital delivery provides us with the speed and cost efficiencies that we need in order to continue to report on local issues.”

Clark said those with newspaper subscriptions would have complete access to the property’s website and can sign up for alerts that link to new stories.

“Our website is updated several times a day, ensuring your access to games, puzzles, comics, obits, news, stats and everything that you have come to expect from us every day,” Clark said.

AIM Media Indiana, which is based in Columbus, also owns the Brown County Democrat, which publishes once a week.
