UPDATE: IU basketball player Mgbako arrested early Sunday morning

Indiana freshman men’s basketball player Mackenzie Mgbako was arrested early morning Oct. 22 at the eastside Bloomington Taco Bell.

According to a Bloomington Police Department press release, officers responded to a call of a man refusing to leave the drive thru at the Taco Bell on East Third Street at around 2:15 a.m.

Taco Bell management told police they were refusing to provide service to the man, who turned out to be Mgbako, because he was “cursing at and being rude to employees.”

Police approached Mgbako’s car, but he refused to give his name and only told officers he was 18 years old, according to the release. He was asked to move his car out of the drive thru, which he did, pulling into a Taco Bell parking space.

Police told Mgbako to leave the property, but he refused. At one point, he began to drive off, then pulled into another Taco Bell parking spot.

“Officers approached his vehicle and advised him that he was under arrest and that he needed to exit his vehicle, but he refused to do so,” the release said.

Officers broke the passenger side window to unlock the doors, then forcibly removed Mgbako from the vehicle. He was handcuffed and taken into custody.

Mgbako was taken to the Monroe County Jail, where he was charged with criminal trespass and resisting law enforcement, both class A misdemeanors. He paid the $1,500 bond Sunday.

UPDATE 10/27: Mike Woodson said in a press release on Friday that Mgbako will play in the exhibition games. When asked about how Mgbako was doing, Woodson said "all that's behind us, we've got to move forward."
