Bloomington Transit to put on 24th annual Stuff-A-Bus event

Bloomington Transit ridership saw a 9% decline from 2014 to 2019, according to the BPTC strategic plan.
Bloomington Transit ridership saw a 9% decline from 2014 to 2019, according to the BPTC strategic plan.

For the 24th year, a Bloomington Transit (BT) bus will visit locations in Bloomington to collect donations for children and families in need.

The goal is for members of the community to stuff the bus with unwrapped toys, clothes and other items all to be donated to the Monroe County office of Indiana Department of Child Services.

In recent years, community members have filled a bus and a half, and the event has gotten bigger every year, said BT employee Brenda Underwood.

“People come out from our community, and really give, and it’s usually full from the back to the front and clear to the ceiling of the bus,” Underwood said. “So, it’s been a really popular program that helps our kids and families in need in this community.”

The bus will be parked in front of different locations, including Wonderlab and T.J. Maxx, on Fridays and Saturdays from Dec. 1 to Dec. 16. The schedule can be found on BT’s website

If people can’t make it to the bus, they may drop off items at the BT Office at 130 W. Grimes. Contact-free shopping is available through registries on the website.

People also may give monetary donations and Bloomington Transit elves will shop for items, Underwood said.

“This has been a long-standing program,” Underwood said. “It’s really a big event that helps people, families and children in need right here in our own community, in Monroe County, and it’s a great program.”
