The Indiana University Graduate & Professional Student Government is making its position clear on the Kinsey Institute. Its members passed a resolution on the status of the Institute Friday at a General Assembly meeting.
The university is currently working on plans to comply with a 2023 state law barring public funds from supporting the institute.

The GPSG advocated against the administration’s plan from last fall to create a 501(c)(3), separating Kinsey administration from the university. It calls for more transparency in the university’s decision-making process.
The resolution also urges university leaders not to separate the Kinsey Library and Special Collections from the Institute, a plan proposed by the university that alarmed Kinsey researchers.
Graduate students also demand the university protects their own research and teaching positions.

GPSG Vice President Louis van der Elst said at the meeting that the resolution marks a starting point.
“It’s not done once we submit it and we vote on it; there is a certain accountability to follow up on it,” he said.
The resolution passed with 23 yes and two abstaining.
The GPSG is a university-sponsored organization representing graduate students on IU Bloomington’s campus.
