The Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet filed charges against anyone arrested during Gaza solidarity protests at Indiana University’s Dunn Meadow.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeff Kehr told WFIU/WTIU News on Tuesday the office is still going through reports and digital evidence against those 57 people.

Kehr added nearly all the arrests were for suspected misdemeanors, except for one felony battery charge. Police arrested many people on preliminary charges of criminal trespass.

IU police say everyone who was arrested at the protests also was temporarily banned from campus. Most received a one-year ban — but Bryce Greene, a lead organizer of the demonstrations, was banned for five years.

In a Sunday statement, the university encouraged anyone arrested at the protests to appeal the bans with IUPD.

University officials changed a 55-year-old policy on encampments at Dunn Meadow the day before the protests began last Thursday. The park is a designated assembly zone, and tents were previously allowed until 11 p.m.

The updated policy prohibits all unapproved temporary structures at Dunn Meadow.

Those facing misdemeanors are scheduled for initial hearings on June 5, and the one facing a felony has a hearing Friday, according to Kehr.
