According to the USDA, 54 percent of Indiana’s corn and 49 percent of the state’s soybeans have been planted so far.

That puts planting progress for corn below the five-year average of 57 percent. Soybeans on the other hand are above their 5-year average at 46 percent.

At this time last year, 71 percent of corn had been planted. Farmers this year have had to contend with sporadic rains that left little window open for soil to dry and planters to get to work.

Additionally, 30 percent of the total corn crop and 27 percent of soybeans have begun to emerge.
