IU Athletics moves football student section to north end zone

Indiana University students will be able to get closer to the action in the upcoming season.

Previously in the stadium's northeast section, the new student section will span between sections 13 through 24.

Scott Dolson, IU’s athletics director, said in a statement this will “create an electric atmosphere on game days.”

The team will have eight home games this season.

This will be the team’s first year under new head coach Curt Cignetti. Cignetti was hired four days after firing coach Tom Allen, who coached the Hoosiers over seven seasons.

Indiana’s first game will be against Florida International University with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff Saturday, Aug. 31. This will be their first meet since Indiana’s 38-28 win in 2018.

Season pass holders in these sections were contacted last week with alternative seating arrangements, the Indiana Daily Student reported.

The IU student section went viral two years ago for starting a shirtless section above the Marching Hundred during some of the season’s coldest game days.

Speaking of the Marching Hundred, this relocation centers the band right in the middle of the student section, further energizing the north end zone.

Season tickets are available now on the IU Hoosiers website.
