IU financial leader leaves for Pittsburgh, associate vice president promoted

Indiana University has a new top financial leader.

Jason Dudich, interim vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer, began his new role on July 1. Dudich succeeds Dwayne Pinkney, who held the position for two years.

Dudich worked under Pinkney as associate vice president for fiscal and economic strategy. President Pamela Whitten said in a May announcement Dudich will modernize IU’s budget, “so we can continue to invest in faculty, research and our students while contributing to the state’s economic vitality.”

“We are grateful for all Dwayne has done and are delighted at this opportunity for him,” Whitten said. “Elevating Jason into this interim role is an indicator of the strength and depth of our organization.”

Dudich will oversee the financial structure of the university and lead long-term planning that supports the IU 2030 strategic plan.

Before working for IU, Dudich led the University of Indianapolis’ financial operations and served as Indiana's budget director.

“I’m excited to continue serving my alma mater as IU builds on its more than 200-year history of excellence while leveraging new opportunities that will allow the institution to thrive,” Dudich said in the announcement.

Pinkney began work as executive vice president for finance and administration in 2022, when Whitten created the role. Pinkney left IU for the University of Pittsburgh, where he was appointed executive senior vice chancellor for administration and finance and chief financial officer.

Dudich and Pinkney told the Board of Trustees in June IU’s operating budget grew to $4.5 billion.
