Katherine Zaiger began her role Tuesday as the City of Bloomington Utilities Director.
Zaiger has served as the interim director since May 6. She took over the position following John Langley’s retirement. She has been with city utilities since 2021.
Zaiger started as the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System coordinator, then became the Environmental Programs assistant director.
She has overseen the environmental compliance of the Monroe County water treatment plant, the utilities service center, the Blucher Poole wastewater treatment plant and the Dillman Road wastewater treatment plant.
She received her master’s degree from Oklahoma State University in natural resource ecology and management. She also has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in biology. She has five years experience in restoration ecology, according to a city press release.
“Kat has brought a solutions-oriented and customer-focused approach to her role, which has greatly benefited both CBU and the City as a whole,” Mayor Kerry Thomson said in a press release. “With Kat’s skills and deep knowledge of the department, we are confident that she will continue to lead CBU forward with excellence.”
