The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is stocking over 50,000 channel catfish in public waters to expand fishing opportunities throughout the state.
The fish are being raised by state biologists at hatcheries in Morgan, Jackson, and Daviess counties. They are about 8 to 10 inches long.
“Once stocked, they acclimate to their new environment quickly, they shouldn’t take long to start biting,” said fisheries biologist Dave Kittaka.
Anglers are required to follow bag and size restrictions. In most lakes and reservoirs, the statewide regulation is 10 channel catfish per day with no more than one being longer than 28 inches.
A list of all stocked locations can be found on the DNR’s website. In Monroe County, locations include Detmer Park Pond, Griffy Lake, Bryant’s Creek Lake, and Cherry Lake.
