Van Deventer wins Monroe County Commissioner

Monroe County Commissioner, District 3 seat (x of Y precincts, percent reporting)

Jody Madeira (Democrat) – (number of votes)

Joe Van Deventer (Republican) – (number of votes)

 

Monroe County will have a new District 3 commissioner in 2025. Republican candidate Joe Van Deventer won the seat against Democratic opponent Jody Madeira with X percent of the vote.

Van Deventer was at the Monroe County Republican watch party on the east side of town when the race was called in his favor Tuesday night.

Van Deventer is the director of street operations for the City of Bloomington.

His priorities include city-county relationships and the new jail site.

He criticized the County Development Ordinance, which controls zoning and subdivision ordinances for the county, except Bloomington and Ellettsville.

His opponent, Democrat Jody Madeira, is an IU Maurer School of Law professor.  She saw the race called at the Democratic watch party.

Her priorities also included county plans for its new jail site, access to community resources, and improving the city-county relationship.

Commissioner District 3 covers the eastern portion of the county, which includes Benton, Clear Creek, Salt Creek, Washington and parts of Perry and Polk townships. Candidates must live in the district, but all voters in the county may vote for them.

Van Deventer beat out one opponent, Paul White, in the May primary.
