Bomba Sr. repeatedly invokes Fifth Amendment in deposition on sexual assault allegations

Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit asked a federal court Thursday to compel Bradford Bomba, Sr. — the longtime team doctor for Indiana University men’s basketball — to answer questions related to sexual assault allegations against him.

Bomba is accused of serial sexual assault under the guise of medical care.

Bomba asserted his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination 45 times during a December 4 deposition, according to a news release sent by lawyers for the plaintiffs.

In the new court filing, two former IU men’s basketball players who are plaintiffs in the case — Haris Mujezinovic and Charlie Miller — contend Bomba asserted his Fifth Amendment rights too broadly.

Among the questions Bomba declined to answer was whether he routinely performed digital rectal exams during athletes’ physicals.

Bomba also would not answer a question about doing prostate exams on  any IU men’s basketball player while traveling with the team to specific destinations — Illinois, Hawaii, or New York.

Lawyers for Bomba did not immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday night.
