INDOT urges caution even as snow tapers off

Exit 117 earlier this morning.

As the snowstorm tapers off, expect more streets and roads to be cleared in the next day or so.

That’s according to Public Relations Director for INDOT, Sidney Nierman.

“We've seen a lot of accumulation on the roads, but it is starting to look like that snow is letting up, or has let up, so this is now allowing us some time to clear those roadways without extra accumulation,” she said.

They certainly have their work cut out for them; it’s been reported that Bloomington received about nine inches of snow in some areas.

Crews have been clearing interstates for travel, but conditions are still less than ideal.

“Stay aware of other motorists, give plenty of space to other motorists, as well as our crews out there on the roadway,” Nierman said. “And also, just take your time, take it slow, and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.”

Travel warnings remain in effect for emergency travel only.
