The Monroe County Council has named two new officers to lead the county through 2025. Jennifer Crossley is the new president and Peter Iverson is the new president pro-tempore.

Councilmember and former county council president Kate Wiltz nominated Crossley for the role of president. The council unanimously supported Crossley. New councilmember David Henry nominated Peter Iverson for county council president pro-tempore. Iverson was also unanimously elected.

Crossley says she owes everything to councilmembers Trent Deckard and Kate Wiltz.

“It’s been a pleasure and honor to serve on this council and learn both from your leadership,” said Crossley. “We’ve gone through a lot this past year in 2024.”

Councilmember Deckard, who served as president of the Monroe County Council throughout 2024, believes Crossley can lead the county in accomplishing its goals this year.

“In all the year I did this, my first call was to Jennifer Crossley, who heard a lot of griping. Sometimes some swear words and sometimes some smiling and laughing. She will be phenomenal because she loves the people of this county just like she loves her district,” said Deckard.

One seat on the council remains empty after the passing of Cheryl Munson. The Monroe County Democratic Party will hold a caucus this Sunday to fill that seat.

The open at-large seat is one of three on the Monroe County Council. The council has seven seats total.
