U.S. officials say five prisoners sustained injuries requiring outside medical attention Monday at a federal prison in Terre Haute.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Bureau of Prisons said that “multiple inmates were observed fighting.”

The prison is medium-security within the campus of the Federal Correctional Complex-Terre Haute, which also houses a high-security prison.

“Responding employees immediately isolated and contained the incident,” the spokesperson wrote in an emailed statement.

The statement didn’t describe the nature of the injuries. According to the spokesperson, no employees were injured.

“At no time was the public in danger,” the statement said.

An internal investigation is ongoing.

The statement advised visitors to check the institution’s website for updates on visitation, and that the FCI would return to normal operations “as soon as possible.”
