Bloomington Transit begins its free downtown shuttle service this Monday.

The service will be part of the existing B-Link Microtransit service. It will focus on the areas of Rogers Street to Indiana Avenue and 10th Street to 1st Street.

John Connell, general manager of Bloomington Transit, said the service is primarily focused on making downtown more accessible during the partial closure of Kirkwood Ave.

“What we are trying to do is come up with an idea that we use our smaller vehicles, use the parking garages as primary pick-up points, and then get people as close to their destination along Kirkwood as possible,” Connell said.

The free service runs Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Connell also said the best way to secure a spot on the shuttle is using the Bloomington Link mobile app.

According to Bloomington Transit, the program may change depending on how riders use the service.
