The State Budget Committee approved funding for repairs at Horsemen’s Camp in Brown County State Park after damage from a May 16 tornado.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources requested $925,542 of unused funds from the Repair and Rehabilitation Funds to be reallocated to repair the area. The committee approved the fund transfer on June 18 following a letter by Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) and State Rep. Dave Hall (R-Norman).

“I’m glad the State Budget Committee approved this proposal so we can restore the area and get people back out there enjoying the trails with their horses,” Koch said in a news release.

He said Horsemen’s Camp is an important part of Brown County State Park, contributing over $320,000 in annual revenue and bringing in out-of-state visitors.

Before the tornado, the camp allowed visitors to bring horses to the park to ride the trails and provided tie-ups for the horses.

“This funding is a big win for our community and for everyone who enjoys the outdoors,” Hall said.
