El Mantis is a heavy psychedelic jazz band formed 2021 in Houston by Danny Kamins (alto saxophone), Andrew Martinez (guitar, vocals) and Angel Garcia (drums, vocals). Influences include King Crimson, John Coltrane, Magma, and The Mars Volta. For fans of genre-bending jazz and progressive music in the vein of the aforementioned groups, Rangda, Sun City Girls, and The Mothers of Invention.
After putting out their debut CD in July 2022, the band released its sophomore album El Mantis II, an LP on Houston-based CIA records, in February 2024. Since then, they have performed extensively in Texas and Puerto Rico to promote their music (4 albums total).
Festivals/venues the band has performed at include 1810 Ojeman in Houston, NMASS Festival, Sahara Lounge in Austin, Rubber Gloves in Denton, Handlebar in San Juan, PR, and C-Note Jazz Club in Luquillo Beach, PR.

Opening the show is a local ensemble of Hazel Benton, Norbert Herber, Ben Myers and Kyle Quass. Mixed electronic/acoustic improvised sound featuring players with Xylocept, Ortet, Lather, Technicolor Band, Without Whom, LXQ, Black Hole Drone Trio, etc.
