Governor appoints three new IU trustees

Indiana Governor Mike Braun
Indiana Public Media
Gov. Mike Braun

Gov. Mike Braun made three appointments to the Indiana University Board of Trustees on Tuesday, replacing members whose terms had expired.

The appointments:

  • Marilee Springer from Hamilton County and a partner at the law firm Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath.
  • David Hormuth, a physician from Jupiter, Fla.
  • Issac White from Wayne County, the new student trustee.

The appointments are effective immediately. Springer and Hormuth have three-year terms. The student trustee has a one-year term.

Tuesday’s appointments were unlike Braun’s three previous appointments to the board, which came after state lawmakers abolished IU alumni elections and gave Braun power to replace any IU trustee at will.

The three new trustees were appointed as part of power the governor had before abolishing alumni trustee elections.

WFIU/WTIU News is an independent newsroom rooted in public service.

“Act Independently” is one of the basic creeds of journalism ethics, and we claim it proudly. The WFIU/WTIU News facilities are located on the campus of Indiana University, which does hold our broadcast license and contribute funding to our organization. However, our journalists and senior news leaders have full authority over journalistic decisions — what we decide to cover and how we tell our stories. We observe a clear boundary: Indiana University and RTVS administrators focus on running a strong and secure organization; WFIU/WTIU journalists focus on bringing you independent news you can trust.
