Bloomington Police responded to a car crash involving a pedestrian Aug. 5 on the west side of Bloomington.

A 76-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a car Tuesday on the west side of Bloomington.

Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Bloomington police responded to the intersection of West Third Street and South Liberty Drive for a car crash involving a pedestrian, according to a BPD news release.

When officers arrived at the scene, firefighters were working to remove Bloomington resident Dorothy Kent from under a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she died.

The driver of the Jeep, a 77-year-old Bloomington woman, told investigators she was turning onto Third Street from Liberty when she felt her car strike something. The driver said she never saw Kent.

The driver did not display any signs of impairment, according to police.

An autopsy has been scheduled, and the investigation is ongoing.
