Frank Sinatra: The V-Disc Years

This week on Afterglow it's "Frank Sinatra on V-Disc." . These were non-commercial recordings that were made for, and distributed exclusively to, soldiers, sailors, and other American military personnel serving in World War II.

They were made at a time when there was a recording ban in the music industry, and so they offer us a unique look at certain stages of various performers' careers.

The V-discs we'll hear capture Frank Sinatra at a still-youthful time in his professional life, and they also reveal how his famous ballad-style with arranger Axel Stordahl was beginning to evolve.

Other performers featured on this edition of Afterglow include Ruth Price, Billy Eckstine, Warne Marsh, Patricia Barber, and Jim Hall.
