Thursday Thunderdome: Battle Of The Romantics

Two titans of the Romantic period share May 7 as a birthday, and this week we're pitting the birthday boys, Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) and Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893), against each other in the Thunderdome.

But how do you level the playing surface between these icons?

To find common ground, we had to go to back to 1878. That year, both Brahms and Tchaikovsky wrote what would be their only violin concerto, both in D major.

Now we're asking you to decide the victor. The winner will be heard on Thursday at 11am and 7pm during our classical music programming. Voting ends at midnight on May 4.

For your consideration, Janine Jansen performs the final movement of both concertos.
