Children's Hunger Addressed On Sesame Street

This past Sunday, the Muppets addressed a serious subject affecting 17 million children -- hunger.

Seven-year-old pink Muppet Lily appeared on Sesame Street to tell other characters about her family's struggles and how sometimes there isn't enough food.

Lily, Elmo and friends work together to organize a food drive for a local food bank, driving home the message, "it helps when we all come together," the Muppet told ABC.

Recent statistics depict a grim image of hunger in America. 15 percent of homes are "food insecure."

Nearly half of the 17 million food insecure children are under the age of six.
