Nearly nine million pounds of beef have been recalled after the Food Safety and Inspection Services have deemed it unfit for human consumption.
Rancho Feeding Corporation of Petaluma, California, processed diseased animals and did not submit to proper inspections. The meat was then sent to distribution centers in California, Florida, Illinois and Texas.
The recall includes 18 categories of beef parts processed between Jan. 1 and Jan. 7. The meat in question bears the USDA label "EST. 527."
Though no reports of illness have been submitted in conjunction with the recall, FSIS believes that consumption of the beef could result in "serious, adverse health consequences or death."
