Global Climate Change Impacts Food Supply

Climate change will cause a squeeze on the world's food supply, exacerbating global hunger and poverty. That's what a United Nations scientific panel said this week.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change finds that a warming world is bad for crop yields, slowing and decreasing key crops needed to feed communities worldwide.

Food prices will rise globally -- some estimates say as high as 84 percent by 2050.

Climate change could also result in warming oceans, which will mean less fish yields.

One bright spot in the report is the ability for innovation and creativity to meet the challenges of climate change, co-chair of Working Group 2 Christopher Field says.
