Lentil Farmers, Pickles, Dangerous Jobs, Brussels Sprouts

What I'm trying to encourage in the food movement here is to take this next step and think about grains and legumes and and domestic fair trade partnerships with people in the U.S. who grow those crops.

Liz Carlisle's new book is called Lentil Underground: Renegade Farmers and the Future of Food in America. She talks about the struggle Montana farmers faced when shifting production from wheat and barley to edible legumes. Also coming up, pickles that go great on tacos, and a raw Brussels sprouts salad. And, more from Harvest Public Media's series about the dangers of working in a slaughterhouse. We meet workers who describe the punishing pace and the lifetime of pain that comes with it.
