The Mass

We hope you're wearing your Sunday best, because this week, Ether Game is heading to church. We're looking at one of the most enduring genres of music in Western Music History, in a show we're calling " The Mass."

Did you know...

  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Great Mass In C Minor just before his marriage to Constanze Weber, although the mass remained unfinished.
  • The Messe de Nostre Dame by Guillaume de Machaut is the oldest mass contributed to a single composer, and is thought to represent the stained glass windows of Notre Dame.
  • The "L'Homme Armé" was a melody used as the basis for several other masses, including one by Giovanni Palestrina.
  • Leonard Bernstein's Mass was a theatrical work with dancers and other non-liturgical texts, written for the dedication of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
