This composer was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but lived in New York City from when he was 3 years old until he was 16. His musical talents were recognized and he was invited to return to Argentina to play and arrange for a tango orchestra. He further developed his musical talents by studying with Alberto Ginastera in Argentina, and later with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. After returning from Paris, he began turning his attention to the development of a new style of tango, combining traditional, classical, and jazz elements into the music. Traditionalists were outraged, but Piazzola developed an authentic and personal style.
