Ensemble Constantinople

Constantinople, the former name of a famous city in Turkey, is also the name of a group that prides itself on blending the sounds of eastern and western cultures. Ensemble Constantinople incorporates various instruments including the Persian setar, viola da gamba, baroque guitar, various percussion instruments, and voice. The inspiration for this recording was a Latin American nun named Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. Although her poetry survives, her music does not so the group recreated her music by using known bass lines under new settings of her poetry.
