The Musicians of the Globe is as fine an ensemble as you might find anywhere, a point made evident in their Philips recording of music from Shakespeare’s plays. Directed by Philip Pickett, the ensemble brilliantly performs works by William Byrd, John Dowland, Robert  Johnson, and Thomas Morley.

Another excellent Philips recording by the Musicians of the Globe is of a reconstructed court entertainment by Ben Jonson known as the Masque of Oberon. Bringing together dance music and songs by Alfonso Ferrabosco II, Robert Johnson, Antony Holborne, and others, the performance is lush, evocative, and simply rich.
