Gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson was recently in Bloomington. Thompson supports the new terrain I-69, but Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan says he doesn't believe it is the most important issue facing the Bloomington community.
He says that the Governor's property tax reduction proposals would have a much greater impact on this area. He believes that ways must be found to pay for the property tax reduction. One option that was discussed is a sales tax increase. The Governor may call a special session of legislature to discuss the issue of how to fund the revenue shortfall.
Bloomington's Planning Commission is currently reconsidering the 45-unit Crestline subdivision proposed for the northwest area of Bloomington near 17th and N. Crescent Road. Local residents have filed a lawsuit opposing the project and changes are being considered to placate residents concerns.
The Bloomington Post office will be relocating from its present downtown location. It may be necessary for it to relocate out of the downtown area because a sufficiently large acreage is not available to accommodate both the mail processing and retail facilities. The city has asked the Post Office to consider separating these functions, locating the retail portion in the downtown area with the processing facility at a more remote west side location. The Post Office is considering this proposal.
