The city of Bloomington's 2010 budget will include cuts to offset a revenue shortfall when it's considered by council members next week. Mayor Mark Kruzan said his position is like that of state lawmakers -- continue to provide services, but keep rainy day resources intact.
"The budget we'll be presenting is a balanced budget," Kruzan said. "That brings with it a problem -- our revenues are down a million and a half dollar for 2009. We don't have that money to rely on. I want to make sure we maintain a healthy balance both in our general funds and in our rainy day reserve, as well."
Speaking on WFIU's "Ask the Mayor," Kruzan says council members could choose to lower the city's spending level in view of the shaky economy, but he doubts the discussion will come to that when it begins next Monday.
