"No Time Like Now": Music And Conversation With Vibraphonist Dick Sisto

“A life course of spirituality”: Dick Sisto spreading some good vibes.
“A life course of spirituality”: Dick Sisto spreading some good vibes.

Vibraphonist Dick Sisto has been a mainstay of the Louisville jazz scene for many years, as a musician, jazz educator, and radio host. Recently Dick stopped by my weekday afternoon jazz program Just You And Me to talk about teaching, working with Maurice White before White gained fame with Earth, Wind and Fire, his friendship with spiritual writer and monk Thomas Merton, playing and recording with pianist Fred Hersch, and how jazz fits into a religious context. We'll also hear music from some of his recent releases, including the soundtrack that he wrote and recorded for the 2007 Merton documentary Soul Searching.

Read more about Dick Sisto at his website. You can also hear Dick talking about Thomas Merton and Merton's love of jazz on the Night Lights program The Jazz Monk.
